Not everyone who applies for a credit card gets one. Often, people who have been denied conventional credit cards can get a secured credit card instead. A secured card is a bank credit card backed by money that you deposit and keep in a bank account.

Your credit history is maintained by companies called credit bureaus; they collect information reported to them by banks.
